Holiday Report, May 2018

Hi everyone, Andy here (Karen back to work, boo hoo )  Just back from Kefalos, staying at Kokalakis (as always).  Very pleasant 2 1/2 weeks, weather good.  Not a tremendous amount to report, for those who go there regularly. Visitor numbers are good, picking up a lot from people who are not going to North African resorts.  Numbers up something like 40% across Greece as a whole.  The one thing of note is the old "Club Med" complex is a hive of activity (see photo).  The main building is stripped back to bare metal, with some of the out buildings demolished.  Several locals report that at the end of the season some 600 workers will descend on Kefalos to get the site ready for planned opening for the 2019 season!  Owned by some rich Greek (with foreign money apparently) who has other hotel interests.  The word is it will be a "very exclusive 7 star (really!) all inclusive resort" for well moneyed people, to be staffed mainly by local people.  The thought of 600 workers being housed/fed/watered/laundry etc etc over the winter months is interesting.  Apart from that, life goes on.  Comments/observations welcome.  Cheers, Andy & Karen[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Wow! That's a big suprise, never expected to see Club Med being used again - thought it was subsiding! Let's hope that this will revitalise Kefalos, as locals have had it rough for many years. ( Being selfish though, don't want it to become too popular  and end up like Kardemena!) Looking forward to our 2 weeks next month.
